It is not a matter of life and death, but rather a major inconvenience to a good night’s sleep.  Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is one of the sleeping disorders that often goes un-detected for quite some time.  The biggest reason for this is because patients rarely talk about their sleep to their doctor during their annual physical exam.  But that is only part of the problem.  As a patient, you can’t be expected to understand everything there is to know about a good night’s sleep and when you are or “are not” getting it.

So, with the help of a sudden increase in high profile health care cases regarding sleeping disorders, Restless Leg Syndrome is also beginning to become more prominent in the world of primary care doctors and internists practicing medicine.  The simple task of diagnosing clinically this sleep disorder can often be accomplished by asking patients if they feel creepy feelings in their legs  that are worse at nightime.  This is something that Dr. William Dement Talks about in his bestselling book “The Promise of Sleep” which was written in simple terms for the ordinary person to understand.

Once patients with RLS are aware of their problem, there are simple ways to remedy the disorder and allow for the individual to obtain a great nights sleep once again.
